Norris Leads Oscar Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice Session
The British driver has outperformed his teammate at all of the previous five race weekends.
The McLaren driver narrowly beat team-mate and title rival Oscar Piastri for the fastest time in the closing stages of practice at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
Norris, who took the championship lead from Piastri by a single point after his victory in the Mexican Grand Prix a fortnight back, beat the Australian by 0.023 seconds.
Earlier in the session, Oscar Piastri had been the leading McLaren throughout the hour before sprint qualifying scheduled for 6:30 PM GMT.
Max Verstappen, the only other driver in the championship fight, sitting 36 points behind Norris, finished in 17th place as his Red Bull team ran a unique setup.
His teammate Yuki Tsunoda was the only driver to crash, though minor, when he lost control at corner four soon after starting.
Tsunoda lost control over the curbs on exit before spinning across the gravel trap, and was fortunate to avoid just a minor contact of the wall.
The Ferrari of the seven-time champion also had a spin, at the conclusion of the session, spinning around through the quick descending Mergulho corner approaching the final bend on to the main straight.
The seven-time champion ended the session in 19th place, one place behind teammate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren pair were far ahead of the rest of the field, with the German's car P3, 0.619 seconds slower than Piastri's best.
The Aston Martin of Fernando Alonso was fourth fastest, with the Sauber of Bortoleto ahead of the Mercedes of George Russell and Alpine's Gasly and the Williams of Carlos Sainz.
